Spring Events

St. Pat’s in Five Points

You can kick off a great month in March at St. Pat’s in Five Points in Columbia. The celebration features a unique marathon, stellar musical lineups, and plenty of other fun experiences you won’t want to miss out on. There are also plenty of local vendors that provide free products and services, as well as sponsor part of the fun.

Kinetic Derby Day

One of the newest annual events in West Columbia, Kinetic Derby Day will have your inner child running wild in April. The celebration features kinetic sculptures that highlight the community’s pride and creativity. All of the kinetic sculptures are human-powered and handmade, so you’ll get a feel of how creative humans can really be. If that’s not enough for you, the event is then followed by an adult and child soapbox derby. This special event is a great way to support the local design ingenuity and discover local artists and vendors selling and displaying distinct arts and crafts. There’s also plenty of delicious grub and events for children to enjoy the special day.

Love, Peace, and Hip-Hop Festival

Downtown Columbia, SC

The Love, Peace, and Hip-Hop Festival does a great job of bringing the community together to celebrate the fast-growing culture. Apart from the great music, the festival also features art, clothes, and food to help celebrate Hip-Hop in style. You’ll be able to enjoy old and new artists in a family-friendly environment.

Rosewood Crawfish Festival

Since 2005, the month of May invites the popular Rosewood Crawfish Festival to the area. The celebration is more than your average food festival, it is a celebration of Creole cuisine, great music, and family fun. You and your family will be able to enjoy face painting, crawfish races, rides, inflatables, a 5k dash, and much more. Local businesses also provide your Cajun favorites including boudin, crawfish etouffee, jambalaya, and other popular recipes. Drift Jam Music Festival

Lake Murray, South Carolina

The month of June invites the world’s largest floating festival. It’s a celebration that attracts people of all ages to the scene, especially college students. So get your best swimsuit ready and attend the best water festival you’ll ever witness.

Lake Murray Fourth of July Fireworks Show

Dreher Island State Park, Lake Murray, Spence Island on Lake Murray

There’s no event more patriotic than the Fourth of July Fireworks Show at Lake Murray. You’ll be able to enjoy some of the finest 30-minute fireworks display everybody loves. The event can also be enjoyed with some radio music that is synced with the fireworks display. The show can also be witnessed from any area near Lake Murray, so you don’t have to make a long trip if anything comes up.

Main Street Latin Festival

The city of Columbia dedicates a whole festival to showcase the beauty and culture of the great Hispanic community. It is a fun celebration where you’ll find popular music shows including salsa, merengue, reggaeton, and Mexican music. You’ll also be able to try out some traditional Hispanic dishes provided by vendors as well as seeing beautiful dances by the Hispanic community. It’s the perfect opportunity to join in on some festival traditions that you’ll only experience at Main Street.

Fall Events

South Carolina College Football

The Fall season is always welcomed by plenty of local fans that want to witness a show. The Gamecocks have some of the best talent the state has to offer and play against plenty of competitive teams looking for a win. Football games in Columbia also feature marching bands, cheer squads, other live entertainment, and plenty of concessions to give you an experience you won’t forget.

Oktoberfest

Oktoberfest brings plenty of authentic German festivities into the Columbia area. This seasonal event allows you to experience great tasting German beer, German food and treats, and plenty of great entertainment for everyone in the community. Korean Festival

The Korean Festival is one of the fastest growing celebrations and offers some of the most distinct shows you can find around the Columbia area. The celebration features different styles of music and performances, from traditional to modern K-Pop. Winter Events

West Columbia’s Annual Christmas Tree Lighting

The West Columbia Annual Christmas Tree Lighting usually takes place around the first and second week of December. It’s a gleeful event that features some of the winners of the elementary “What Christmas Means To Me” contest in the district. The event also features the winner of the artwork entry and displays the top three entries will be displayed on the Art on State wall. This welcoming event also features Christmas carols, greetings, food and refreshments provided by local businesses, and the lighting of the West Columbia Christmas Tree.

West Columbia Chamber Holiday Parade of Lights

One of the most anticipated holiday parades is the Columbia Chamber Holiday Parade of Lights. This event takes all the fun to the downtown streets of West Columbia, showing off some of the most decorated floats, marching bands, and other popular exhibits. It’s a great event to join in on some lively holiday cheer and see what Christmas means to West Columbia.

Famously Hot New Year Event

You can always head over to Columbia and enjoy the largest New Year’s Celebration in the state of South Carolina in style.
